Pavilion, Richard Frinier win design award for new outdoor collection

Outdoor manufacturer Pavilion has received the Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design for the Marina collection of indoor/outdoor furniture, created in collaboration with designer Richard Frinier.

The Good Design Awards honor new consumer products, graphics and packaging design and manufactured internationally, and is awarded by the museum in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art Design and Urban Studies and Metropolitan Press Ltd. It was founded in 1950 by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr.

The Marina collection pays homage to Miami and its “nostalgic beachfront resorts and hotels in South Beach along Ocean Drive and Collins Avenu,” through a contemporized interpretation of vintage and retro classic furniture. Done in weather-resistant materials in relaxed colorways, it aims to create “a resort experience” across interior and exterior dining and lounge areas.

“Our collaboration with renowned designer Richard Frinier brought a unique perspective in styling and material selection that makes this design a standout for indoor and outdoor residential, contract, hospitality and marine environments,” said Ward Usmar, president of Pavilion.

Home category leads Target’s holiday sales growth

Minneapolis – The home category continues to be a boon for retailers, with Target scoring a comparable sales increase for this sector in the low 20% percent range for November and December.

The company, in its report on holiday sales, said comparable sales for the two-month period grew 17.2%, driven by 4.3% traffic growth and a 12.3% increase in the average ticket. Digital sales experience a huge gain – up 102% – while store-originated comparable sales rose 4.2%.

In an article on the company’s website, Target explained its growth in home-related sales: “From baking in the kitchen to posing in matching jammies for holiday photos, families spent more of the season at home. And Target curated a special assortment with everything they needed – holiday gifts and toys, foods, apparel, décor and essentials – to make the most of their time together…”
