Miscellaneous
Books/Equipment
The buildings, facilities, and property of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Emmanuel Christian Academy belong to God. Respect for the appearance and care of the school is a part of one's Christian duty. Damaging or destroying property, littering, and other offenses are not evidence of proper Christian character.
Willful damage or destruction of church or school property will not be tolerated. All damage must be paid for, whether willful or accidental.
All students are expected to report immediately to the office any damaged furniture or other school property.
Students are responsible to keep any school-owned textbooks covered.
Students are also responsible to respect the property of other students.
Field Trips
During the year, there will be field trips to different points of interest. On these trips parents are asked to assist with the children. Parents may see their child's teacher if they would like to volunteer. Since a parent is representing Emmanuel Christian Academy on field trips, we request that ladies wear a skirt, dress, or jumper that reaches the middle of the knee and that men wear long pants with a collared shirt. A minimal bus fee may be charged to help defray the cost of transportation.
Library Fines
Fines for overdue books are 5 cents per day with a maximum fine of $5.00 for books that are returned. Replacement cost will be billed for lost books.
Lockers
Locker assignments and locks will be issued to Senior High students at the beginning of the school year. Junior High students may be issued a locker if availability allows.
All lockers are expected to be maintained in an orderly fashion. Opened food and drink should not be left in a student's locker.
All locks should be left locked when a student is not using his/her locker.
Pictures, mirrors, magnets, and other accessories may not be hung in or attached to any locker. No student should ever write in his/her or someone else's locker.
At the end of the year, the students will return their locks to an assigned teacher. Fees will be charged to students who do not return their locks.
Students are not to loiter around the lockers after school hours. This would include the afternoon or at night during and after ball games or other school functions.
The administration reserves the right to periodically check lockers to ensure that these standards are being followed.
Lost and Found
Lost or misplaced articles may be picked up in the school office before school, during lunch, and after school. Twenty-five cents will be charged for each item (this fee applies to Junior and Senior High only). Parents are asked to write their child's name clearly on all items brought to school including jackets, lunch boxes, books, etc. All items not identifiable will be disposed of after a reasonable amount of time.
Lunchroom
Some microweavable items are available to students wishing to purchase a lunch. Students may also bring their own sack lunches. Milk, snacks, and other refreshments may be purchased.
An elementary student who wishes to order a school lunch must inform the teacher each morning. Elementary students' lunches are ordered and paid for in the classroom.
Students with unpaid lunch charges will not be allowed to charge.
Students are asked not to bring food or drinks out of the lunchroom since this generally creates a littering problem.
Music Policy
We strongly hold to Biblical convictions that rock music damages a student physically, socially, and spiritually. Therefore, a student attending Emmanuel Christian Academy is asked not to listen to such music at any time while a student.
We feel that rock music undermines both parental and school authority, which is so necessary to Christian education. Therefore, students who listen to rock music cannot receive the full benefits of a Christian education.
Parents and students are asked to come to an understanding of this policy before enrolling.
Emmanuel Christian Academy also disapproves of the influence of Contemporary Christian Music (CCM), southern gospel, and other like genres of "Christian" music. While we realize that not all families hold our same position on music, we do expect that our students will not disparage our standards or attempt to attract other students to listen to these styles of music.
Off Limits
No student is permitted in a classroom without the teacher's permission. Custodians and coaches are not permitted to unlock doors for students unless the student presents a written request from the teacher who uses the classroom. Classrooms will not be unlocked for a student to pick up forgotten books or assignments.
Passes
All students must have a pass to be outside the classroom. A student may not miss an academic class during the school day without permission and a pass from the principal.
Selling On Campus
Any students or organizations wishing to sell items on the campus of Emmanuel Christian Academy must gain prior approval of the dates, items, and methods from the Academy administrator.
School Office Hours
The school office opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 4:00 p.m.
School Revival
Each year there will be a school revival for all students in the seventh through twelfth grades. This is a time of spiritual training and challenge. This is normally conducted at the beginning of the school year. Occasionally afternoon activities for grades 7-12 will be conducted in order to build class unity.
Telephone
Students will not be allowed to make phone calls during the day unless the calls are considered necessary by the principal. In the case of an emergency, the office staff will place the call. Such things as forgetting lunch money, PE uniforms, books, reports, asking about going home with a friend, and other changes of plans by the student during the day are not considered reasons for calling parents. No cellular phones or pagers are permitted in the school building. Students may bring them to the office for safekeeping.
Transportation
While Emmanuel Christian Academy has operated a van route in the past, current demand does not support the costs involved in maintaining such a program. Parents will be notified in the future should the Academy decide to restart the transportation program.
For those families living in the town of Newington, the town provides morning and afternoon transportation to and from the Academy for all residents who live more than one mile from the school. Parents who are interested in this service should contact the school office for further information.
Since Emmanuel Christian Academy provides education to students from a wide geographic region, some as far as forty-five minutes away, we recommend car-pooling among families in the same vicinity. If you desire to provide car-pooling or to have your child ride in a car pool, please call the office to provide your name and phone number. Parents in that region will be given your number and will contact you if they are interested in helping. In providing names of prospective drivers, Emmanuel Christian Academy does not necessarily endorse their qualifications, driving ability, etc. It is the parents' duty to evaluate the suitability of the driver/family of their particular car pool.
Emmanuel Christian Academy does provide transportation for its student-athletes and cheerleaders. For specific instruction regarding transportation of athletic teams, please refer to the Athletic Handbook, available upon request in the school office.
Visitors
Visitors to Emmanuel Christian Academy must obtain a pass from the school office before visiting or observing classes, music, practices, or the lunchroom. Visitors must come close to meeting the school hair and dress code; however, visitors must complete meet the code in areas of modesty.
