Outdoor manufacturer OW Lee has tapped Comfort, Texas, outside of San Antonia, Texas, as its new home, marking the company’s first headquarters move out of California since its founding in 1947.
Currently based out of Ontario, Calif., the move announcement came after the company’s acquisition of a 412,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Texas.
“We chose to relocate to Texas due to the states favorable business incentives and policies, and for the central location for shipping,” explained Terri Lee Rogers, president and vice president of sales for the manufacturer. “The San Antonio area can meet our need for high quality metalworkers and welders, and we feel we can provide a good wage and be a positive business member in this community.”
The move will also more than double the company’s square footage, giving OW Lee 255,000 square feet more than its current facility.
To prepare for its move, slated for January 2021, the company will spend the next four to six months installing a new paint line and performing various upgrades, with plans to be fully operational in the new facility by spring 2021.
Throughout this process, ownership of OW Lee will remain with the Lee family, and it “plans to continue their commitment to producing high-quality American-made outdoor furniture,” according to a release from the company. OW Lee was founded in Pasadena, Calif., by Oddist W. Lee in 1947.
