Seminary History
Emmanuel Baptist Theological Seminary (EBTS) was founded by Emmanuel Baptist Church in January, 2000. For several months, the pastor of the church had become convinced that God wanted this seminary to be established. As he shared this with his men and with the people of his church, they, too, became convinced that this was of the Lord. In fact, the psalmist seemed to word their sentiments exactly: "This is the LORD's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes" (Psalm 118:23).
Even before the official vote of the church took place, God brought Dr. Thomas Strouse into the picture. Very quickly he also saw God's leading for his part in this ministry; and after several weeks of careful prayer, he accepted the church's invitation to become dean of this new seminary. He brings experienced leadership to the seminary, having served for over 22 years in this same capacity at two different ministries. He holds a Ph.D. from Bob Jones University and a M.Div. from Maranatha Baptist Bible College. He has authored several books and commentaries and is especially noted for his strong stand on the preserved Word of God in the textual debate.
From the very beginning, the hand of God upon EBTS has been evident in so many areas. The acquiring of a fine library, the receipt of necessary funds, the kind attention and acceptance of Baptist pastors, the interest of students — all of these combined to confirm the leadership of the Lord. Emmanuel Baptist Theological Seminary is not the result of human genius or clever leadership. God is doing a work in this institution, whereof we are glad.
The doors of the Seminary opened in the Fall of 2000. Since that time, the Seminary has continued to grow. In August of 2002, Dr. W. Aaron Strouse joined the faculty at EBTS. He now serves as a professor and as the school Registrar.
